Cap the CoPay! Remove Barriers to Lifesaving Medications
Skyrocketing out-of-pocket costs are putting lifesaving medications out of reach for people living with chronic diseases. Medications needed for life threatening or debilitating diseases can cost people between 20-50% of the drug’s total cost each month, causing people living with chronic illnesses like arthritis, blood diseases, epilepsy, HIV and others to pay hundreds, even thousands, of dollars a month, even with health insurance.
HB3605, sponsored by State Representative Jaime M. Andrade Jr., (D-Chicago), and its companion bill in the Senate, SB1359, sponsored by Senator Linda Holmes (D-Aurora) would limit out-of-pocket costs for medications to $100 or $200 per prescription per 30-day supply for fully-insured patients.
